Well that was a shock wasn't it! A properly warm and sunny bank holiday in Wales! Wow! I hope you enjoyed yourself wherever you were.
I had a fab week off, but still manage to sneak in a collaboration - you will have to wait and see what! - and a demonstration at the fab Bridgend Sugarcraft Club.
I loved the fab way that Cake Decoration & Sugarcraft magazine snuck in an early peek of my vintage phone cake tutorial. Released on National Paranormal Day, I didn't stop giggling at their #WhoYouGonnaCall
The tutorial will be in the June Issue that is out on the 24th May, so make sure you grab your copy. I had loads of fun making this one.

ACADA Global Cake Hero of the Year Finalists
Karen Portaleo is a finalist for yet another award. I did say she was rather special didn't I.
ACADA announced the finalists for Global Cake Hero of the Year Karen Portaleo, Dorothy Klerck and Carlos Lischetti. Hugely talented sugar artists.
The awards are on the Saturday night of the ACADA International cake show which is being held the 18-20 May at the Brisbane Showgrounds. So all of you lucky people attending the show, we expect photographs! Good luck to all of the finalists.

Latest YouTube Tutorial
People asked me for tutorials suitable for both beginners and those needing quick commercial designs, so after my demonstration for Bridgend Sugarcraft Club last week (thank you for the lovely evening as always), I decided to release two of the characters that I made that evening.
The first tutorial is on my YouTube channel. It is the cute little girl tutorial. I made her in Saracino because I believe it makes modellers out of all of us, but you could also use regular sugarpaste strengthened with CMC - Don't know what that is? Lots of people know it by the brand name of Tylo. CMC is Carboxymethylcellulose. A cheaper and faster working alternative to Gum Tragacanth that you can mix into your sugarpaste to convert it into a modelling paste.
I use 1 level tsp of CMC kneaded into 400g of regular sugarpaste.
The little boy cake topper will be a future tutorial, so make sure you subscribe so you don't miss him.
Llancaiach Fawr Sugarcraft & Cake Show 2018
The annual show is coming up, and the competition closing date is the 12th May! So if you have an idea bubbling round your head that you would like to create, pop along to the website, check the schedule and get that entry in while you still have time.
Sorry I won't get to see it this time, but my Thoughtful the Dwarf will be popping along on the Pontyclun Branch of the BSG table. He was designed for the Snow White the Grimm Obsession Feature for Cake International last November. It was an incredible feature with amazing cake artists. So if you didn't manage to get to the show, he is a tiny part.

Save The Date
Which brings me to the Welsh National Sugarcraft & Cake Show.
Pop Saturday the 9th of February 2019 into your diary to make sure you don't miss out. This will be held in County Hall in the beautiful Cardiff Bay . Tickets will be available to purchase from mid August. I will share further information as soon as it is released.

The Polkadot Teapot Cake Craft Demonstrations
So, have you met our fabulous Cara Maiden yet? I say "our" because we Welsh claim her, she is ours! I recently had the pleasure of watching her demonstrate to Pontyclun Branch of the BSG and nearly cried with laughter. It is not allowed to be both witty and talented, but hey ho, she manages it!
Those of you that made it the previous evening at Polka had such an awesome time that the upcoming one on the 16th May is already sold out! Cara will be demonstrating Orchids and professional icing finish, so all you lucky people that can go, have a fabulous time.
The rest of you, make sure you get your tickets for June the 20th where she will be demonstrating a sweet pea and carnation sharp edged cake.
Paul Williams Demonstration
Well, you can't talk about one Welsh Cake Team member without talking about the other, multi medal-winning as they both are...........so.............date for your diary! Paul Williams will be demonstrating Royal Icing at the Pontyclun Branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild on the 11th June. For all those that I have told about Paul, here is your chance!

Spectacular Pakistan Collaboration
Finally, I am thrilled to have contributed to this fantastic collaboration. There are wonderful works in there, sculptures, flowers and cakes, so make sure you go along and have a look. There is also a wonderful video on the collaboration page showing how spectacular Pakistan truly is, so the title was a perfect choice! I have a list of places in the world I need to visit, and Pakistan is most definitely now on there. Thank you Faiza for inviting me to participate.
Here is my contribution. Mr Abdul Sattar Edhi, founder of the Edhi Foundation and known as the Angel of Mercy. A truly inspiring man. He is a sculpted bust and is 15" tall and was created using Saracino.

Anyone who has been to one of my classes or Demonstrations knows that I am passionate about my craft. I wholeheartedly believe that knowledge should be shared, so if I know something, I will happily tell you.
This includes my love of what I call the History of Sugarcraft in our lifetime.
I started cake decorating in 1995, learning from books and from attending British Sugarcraft Guild meetings with all the fabulous demonstrators.
